Mutsy EVO Stroller Review

Mutsy Evo - full

Company Description

Mutsy originally started out as Mutsaerts and has been in business since 1937. It is a Dutch company and is a long time sponsor of Casa Materna – a birthing center in Nicaragua. The company started selling in the USA in 2007.

Basics

This has to be one of the best strollers we have ever tested. It is a very stylish stroller and very, very practical.  The seat is reversible and reclines totally flat. Ideal for newborns but can also carry a child weighing up to 50 pounds. The seat has an adjustable footrest. It is sometimes difficult to find a stroller that folds easily but this one does. The front wheels can swivel or lock into position. Newborn babies can be put in the bassinet or the seat can be adjusted to accommodate them.

Mutsy Evo Reviews and Features

Maneuverability

This is one of the easiest stroller to push and to steer. One handed steering is easy, allowing you to use your free hand for other things. The rear wheels are 11″ and the from wheels are 9″ and they seem to be perfect. If you are going over router terrain or soft ground, the front wheels can be locked and this helps prevent them from digging in and making the stroller unstable. For normal use on paved surfaces, the front wheels are left unlocked and they can swivel 360 degrees. We loved the ease of steering on the Evo.

Mutsy Evo_2

Folding

Folding is really easy in the Evo however it is a multi-step process. Once you have done this a few times you will find that it is very quick and easy. It folds to a compact size. Unlike most other strollers that can be folded with the seat attached, the Evo can be folded with the seat facing forward or backward. When folded, it locks into position and there is a very convenient carry handle which makes it very easy to pick up. A lot of thought has gone into this.

Mutsy Evo_5

Seat

The bassinet is sold separately. The seat on the Evo Stroller is capable of holding a child weighing up to 50 pounds which is one of the best on the market today. It has a removable and adjustable bumper bar. There is a 5-point safety harness that is easily adjustable to accommodate a toddler or a 3 year old and the buckle is really easy to fasten. The Mutsy Evo seat can be reclined using only one hand and can be reclined to a fully flat position. This allows the seat to accommodate a newborn baby. The footrest is adjustable and has so many adjustments that the seat can be almost converted into a bassinet when the footrest is tilted up and secured to the bumper bar. The stroller is compatible with Graco and Maxi Cosi car seats if you purchase the appropriate adapter and this converts your Mutsy Evo Stroller into a Mutsy travel system.

Canopy

The canopy is large and can be made even bigger by unzipping a zipper in the hood and pulling the canopy forward more. Like other Mutsy canopies, there is a viewing window built into the canopy and this also provides good ventilation in hot climates. The only drawback with the canopy is the size. When the seat is fully reclined, it is just not large enough to provide proper shade to your baby.

Shopping Space

We liked the cargo area in the Evo as it was flexible and it was a decent size. Unlike some other Mutsys, it was easier to access. It will easily hold a large diaper bag.

Wheels

The rear wheels are 11″ and the front wheels are 9″. The tires are solid and made from some sort of synthetic rubber which means that you can never get a puncture. Sometimes this can lead to a bumpier ride but not in the Evo as the frame suspension provides more than enough comfort for baby. The front wheels can swivel or be locked into position. Locking them into position is very useful if you are going on the beach or on soft or uneven ground but they are better left unlocked when traveling over paved surfaces. Mutsy have got the balance of wheel size, wheel material and suspension just right on this stroller.

Handlebar

The handlebar has a leatherette covering. It is height adjustable but unlike other strollers it is not telescopic. There is a hinge that allows the handlebar to bend up or down and this raises or lowers the handlebar. The handlebar can be adjusted anywhere inside a range from 33″ to 44″ above the ground.

Mutsy Evo_3

Brakes

Like the Mutsy 4Rider Next, the brakes are foot operated. The brakes are operated by pressing a pedal with your foot and released by placing your toe under the pedal to flick it up again. It works fine but I do not like this type of brake as it will scuff new shoes.

Where to Buy

I recommend buying the Mutsy Evo from Pish Posh Baby on this link.

You can also try the strollerdepot.com.

Summary

The Mutsy Evo Stroller is available in 6 colors in Europe but only 4 colors in the USA. Black, brown, navy and white. This stroller really impressed us and we would recommend it to anyone. It does everything well. It is maneuverable and easy to push. It looks great. Totally practical and very, very adaptable to suit newborns, toddlers and more grown up children. As luxury strollers go, the Evo is at the cheaper end and it does everything as well as (if not better than) the more expensive strollers. A lot of thought has gone into this stroller and it shows.

Some competitors are the Bugaboo Cameleon 3 and the Stokke Xplory.

Mutsy 4 Rider Next Review

December 9, 2016 by Jo

Company Description

Mutsy originally started out as Mutsaerts and has been in business since 1937. It is a Dutch company and is a long time sponsor of Casa Materna – a birthing center in Nicaragua. The company started selling in the USA in 2007.

Basics

It is a luxury version of the standard 4 Rider and has the classic Mutsy profile. It has a minimalistic look. The stroller comes with a seat but not a bassinet (bassinet is optional). The tires are pneumatic for extra comfort and the single spoke wheels look stylish. It is simple to exchange the seat for a bassinet and the stroller easily adapts to a travel system with an adapter making moving your baby between car and stroller very easy. It has an aluminum frame and the seat can be reversed. Front swivel wheels provide the stroller with great maneuverability.

The 4 Rider Next is compatible with some car seats when purchased with the appropriate adapter. It is available in 18 colors. The main difference between the Mutsy 4Rider Next Stroller and the normal Mutsy 4Rider is that the handlebar is covered in leather.

4 Rider Next Specification

  • Dimensions: FOLDED 41″ long x 24.8″ wide x 11.8″ high    OPEN 29.2″ long x 24.8″ wide x 44.9″ high
  • Weight: Without wheels: 12.8 lbs
  • Weight: Single Spoke 23.2 lbs
  • Maximum recommended weight: 45 lbs

4 Rider Next Stroller PROS

  • Very Stable – Can hold up to 83 lbs on handle before tipping
  • Comfortable over rough or smooth surfaces
  • Easy to push
  • Very maneuverable
  • Easy to fold and unfold
  • Folds with seat or bassinet attached
  • Giant canopy
  • Easily adjustable handlebar and good grip – one hand adjustment
  • Practical and easy to use brakes
  • Great safety harness

4 Rider Next Stroller CONS

  • Heavy
  • Storage space is small
  • Noisy when hood is down

Mutsy 4 Rider Reviews and Features

Maneuverability

The swiveling frame combined with the large 12″ wheels provide a very smooth ride. It is very easy to push even though this is a heavy stroller and it steers easily. Smaller wheels in the front would leave the stroller more maneuverable but overall the larger front wheels work well on all other terrains – including sand.

Folding

Folding is easy and can be achieved with only one hand. The stroller will fold with the seat attached but only if the seat is facing forward. The folding process requires you to pull up on the safety grip on the handle and also press the lever on the side of the handlebar while pressing down on the handle. It folds very easily while the wheels remain on the ground and none of the stroller fabric will touch the ground.

Seat

The seat has lots of padded nylon and the fabric is very easy to clean. It is easily reversible and has a multiple position recline. Unlike some strollers, the seat on the 4Rider Next will recline to a totally flat position (not a “V” position like some other strollers). The depth of the seat is adjustable. It has a 5-point safety harness and the buckles are very easy to use. The clip system for removing the seat is really easy to use so removing the seat is a breeze. The seat has a huge hood that has a viewing window built in. The seat has a bumper bar which can be replaced with a dinner tray (optional). The foot rest is adjustable. With the proper adapters (sold separately), the stroller can take the Graco or Maxi Cosi car seat. The stroller will fold flat with the seat or bassinet attached.

Canopy

The canopy is very big and will protect your child from all of the elements. There is a viewing window at the rear.

Shopping Space

Unfortunately, shopping space is limited. The cargo area below the seat is very small.

Wheels

The 4Rider wheels are large and are air filled (pneumatic). This provides a very smooth ride for your baby. The large tires will go over bumps and hollows much easier than smaller wheels. The front wheels swivel and this makes steering very easy if you are going shopping.

Brakes

The brakes are foot operated and very easy to use. The pedal is large and easy to reach. However, you do need to use your toe to release the brake and this may scuff new shoes. This is a pet hate of mine.

Summary

The 4Rider Next stroller is a luxury stroller but it is not as expensive as most other luxury strollers. When we carried out the Mutsy 4Rider review, we found it comparable to the Bugaboo Cameleon 3 but it is cheaper than the Cameleon. Mutsy is still relatively new in the USA and as such this stroller will make you stand out from the crowd. It is easy to convert this stroller into a travel system and the large wheels make it usable over most types of terrain. However, this is a heavy stroller (most luxury strollers are heavy) and the Bugaboo Cameleon is lighter.

Mutsy Transporter Review

December 9, 2016 by Jo

Company Description

Mutsy originally started out as Mutsaerts and has been in business since 1937. It is a Dutch company and is a long time sponsor of Casa Materna – a birthing center in Nicaragua. The company started selling in the USA in 2007.

Basics

It has a large, reclining seat and a 4-position adjustable handlebar. It is very easy to push and it is very maneuverable thanks to the swivel wheels in front. The seat can hold a child weighing as much as 55 pounds and this puts it on a par with the Uppababy Vista. The stroller can be converted into a travel system very easily by attaching a car seat. It is very maneuverable and easy to push. It is available in four colors:

  • Black
  • Brown
  • Grey
  • Purple

Mutsy Transporter Specification

Dimensions: OPEN 37.5″ long x 25.6″ wide x 41.3″ high. (95.3cm x 65cm x 105cm )
FOLDED 29.1″ x 25″ x 13.5″ (74cm x 52cm x 31cm)
Weight:       23 lbs (18 lbs without wheels)

Transporter Stroller PROS

  • Very stylish design
  • Great seat that can hold 55 lbs
  • Quick fold with seat attached
  • Lockable front wheels
  • Adjustable, four position handlebar
  • Lots of accessories available
  • Easily converts to a stroller system by adding a car seat

Transporter Stroller CONS

  • Different adapters required for the bassinet and the seat
  • The seat recline is not easy when your baby is in the seat.
  • The seat is not reversible
  • Unable to do a one hand fold – requires both hands
  • Heavy – at 18 lbs (minimum) this is not a light stroller
  • Canopy is not large enough

Mutsy Transporter Reviews and Features

Maneuverability

The Mutsy is very maneuverable (as you would expect in this price range). It is easy to push and we tried it on short grass and gravel. These surfaces did not provide any difficulty when the front wheels were locked in position. On paved surfaces the stroller is very easy to push and to steer and it will turn on a dime. Virtually no pressure is required to steer on a paved surface. It is very easy to push and steer the Transporter with only one hand.

Folding

The folding process is very simple however it does require you to use both hands. We found it easy to do and it folds compactly but not as compactly as you might be led to believe when reading some literature from the manufacturer or other user reviews. When folded, it can be manually locked into position which makes it easy to lift in and out of the car trunk. An automatic locking system would have been much more convenient. When folded, it is compact and it will fit into a pretty small trunk but do not believe Mutsy when they say it takes up very little space – check the dimensions. However, if you need to get it into a really tight space, then the wheels are very easy to remove and this reduces the size considerably. If it is wet, I would not want to be removing the wheels before putting the stroller in my car.

Seat

The seat is non-reversible and can hold infants from 3 months old up to 55 lbs. The seat has a padded, five point harness and we had no difficulty fastening this. The seat is deep and large enough to hold older children. We had our 4 year old sit in it and she was very comfortable. The seat has a bumper bar (no tray) but no cup holder. For smaller children there is a very handy, comfortable headrest which our children loved as it was well padded. The seat is reclined by using a strap system but this can be difficult to use if you have a child already in the seat. I found that I had to use both hands to do this. The seat does not recline totally flat which would have been convenient. There is a footrest that worked well and was perfectly located.
The frame can accommodate the following car seats:

  • Graco
  • Maxi Cosi
  • Peg Perego

Bassinet

The bassinet (sold separately) requires a different adapter in order to fit it to the frame but you only need to do this once as you will not be changing from bassinet to seat and back to bassinet again, very often. The bassinet is very stylish and very sturdy. The bassinet canopy is large and provides good protection. The cover also provides great protection from the weather. With the bassinet attached, the cargo area is very easy to access.

Canopy

The seat canopy is a good size although there are bigger ones in some other strollers. It will not provide 100% sun protection. It was easy to open and close but it lacked a viewing window on top to allow us to see how our baby was doing.

Shopping Space

The shopping basket is an optional extra on the Mutsy Transporter. It is low down and located under the seat/bassinet. To make access easier, the basket is sloped back. The shopping basket is very large and the extra space is very useful. Access to the basket is more difficult when the seat is attached compared to when the bassinet is attached.

Wheels

The wheels cannot go flat. I.e. there are no inner tubes. The rear wheels are 12″ diameter and this is a good size for traveling over average size, normal bumps and for going over curbs. The front wheels are 9″ diameter. They can swivel or they can be locked into position when traveling over rough ground. When free to swivel, the stroller is very maneuverable. All wheels are very easily removed if you need to store your stroller in a very small space.

Handlebar

We found the handlebar to be a terrific design. It is adjustable but not telescopic. Instead, the handlebar has a four position (up or down) tilt. This will suit both tall and short parents. It is well padded and comfortable to grip.

Brakes

The brakes are foot operated by pressing on a large, central pedal between the rear wheels. It is a good design and operates both rear wheel brakes simultaneously.

Summary

When we were asked to write a Mutsy Transporter review, we thought it was going to be really easy but after some use, we found a few problems with it. The locking strap to hold the stroller in the folded position became a real pain after a while and an automatic lock would have been much better. It took up more space than we expected when it was folded. Mutsy advertise this stroller as having a very compact fold. Yes, the fold is compact but it still takes up a lot of space. We really would have enjoyed having a reversible seat for our younger baby. However, even with all of these negatives, this is a great stroller.

Yes it could be better but we liked it. It was practical (for the most part). It was very easy to push. It looks terrific and our kids loved riding in it. All the materials are of good quality and it is very well constructed. Overall, we would recommend the Mutsy Transporter stroller to anyone.
